The Sex in My Business: Sex plays an integral role when I’m shooting couples. I have never liked taking photos where it only mimics people having sex. I much prefer to capture how bodies express themselves naturally. In individual sessions, I also like when people have sex with themselves. The result is an erotic shot that is both sensual and real. The camera shows what they are feeling at that moment.
A Typical Day: Before a shoot, I talk with a client ahead of time about the concept and work to gain their confidence. The day of the session is gradual. First I shoot with clothes on, then with only underwear, and lastly nude. Throughout the session, I am directing the person and building off their facial expressions and body language.
The Best Part: The best part is when I’m out taking photos. It’s the moment I get to channel my creativity. I enjoy working with bodies; their emotions and expressions, as well as exploring everything that comes with being a human. From inside out.
The Worst Part: The hardest part is when I sit down to edit the photographs. Although I don’t have an elaborate way of editing, I want the images to look real and not like plastic dolls, so I edit and reedit the contrast and brightness to achieve authenticity.
How I Got Here: When I was six years old, I realized I was attracted to the male body after viewing ads of men in their underwear in magazines. I started this career 29 years ago because I was so drawn to nudity, and little by little, I found a way to express emotions and sensations through the language of the body.
What Society Thinks: Mexico is a country governed by conservative values and double standards. While my family and friends accept my job, many people don’t believe that I make erotic art, labeling me a pervert, a heretic, or a blasphemer. The fear of bodies and sexuality somewhat tarnished my career but it did not stop me from pursuing my passion. I’ve been successful at finding work in other countries that are more open-minded, focusing on exhibitions, festivals, and winning awards. Over the years, I have become strong and continue to move forward and grow.
When I’m Not at Work: I like reading and walking at night when the streets are silent and peaceful. That’s when my mind becomes creative.
