Occupation: Chief Creative Officer at Adult Time
Location: Los Angeles, California, United States
The Sex In My Business: Adult Time is a digital subscription platform where members can view sexual content. As the Chief Creative Officer, one of my duties is to direct other people having sex in the films and series I create.
A Typical Day: I split my time between my home office and production sets. At home, my work is focused on steering the marketing and content strategies with our team. On sets, I spend my time directing various adult films and series projects.
The Best Part: I really enjoy empowering my cast and crew to create beautiful and thought-provoking work that challenges the status quo of what porn can be. I also enjoy using sex and sexuality to Trojan horse powerful messages into the hearts and minds of our audience.
The Worst Part: My least favorite part of the job is weathering through the shame and stigmas associated with sex work.
How I Got Here: My professional background is in marketing and communications, having previously worked for various e-commerce and online entertainment retailers. In 2009, I was recruited by Gamma Entertainment, the company behind Adult Time, to join their team as one of their first marketing hires. In 2012, I took on the challenge of building Gamma Films Group, our production entity, and developing several award-winning adult studios, including Girlsway and Pure Taboo. These studios were where I cut my teeth as an adult film writer, director, and producer. The work also inspired the original vision behind Adult Time, which I pitched to Gamma's partners in late 2017. I did this because as a filmmaker, I longed for a platform within the adult space that was similar to Netflix: a space where you could develop great shows and series that tackled a wide range of subjects and be able to curate that content based on each viewer's individual tastes. When we agreed to make it a focus for our company, I stepped in as our Chief Creative Officer. In addition to my directing work, I now work with a solid management team to drive forth our platform's vision, content, community, and marketing strategies.
What Society Thinks: I never hide who I am because doing so only propagates the stigma. Consequently, I encounter a mix of curiosity and misconceptions. Younger people, who are more desensitized to adult content, think my job is cool and interesting; they ask a lot of questions. Older people tend to associate porn with negative stereotypes, but after a discussion they often see how much thought and care goes into the work I do. I am open-minded about sexuality and use my position in the adult industry to not only entertain but also to bring awareness.
When I’m Not At Work: I like to spend time with my family and be outside in nature.
