Slut

The word “slut” has evolved in recent decades, and many people now consider it to have been reclaimed. We have books like The Ethical Slut, Slutever, and my own Substack publication, "BOYSLUT." Being a slut means being sex-positive, sexually unapologetic, and open about your needs and desires. It’s about rejecting all the sex-negative attitudes we’ve internalized from the moment an adult lied to us about where babies come from.
Being a slut is about owning your sexuality. In this issue of Queer Majority, we explore the landscape of sexual empowerment. After all, there is no single way to be a slut. We go beyond “how identifying as a slut is a feminist act!” That is old news. Instead, we delve into untold narratives about sluthood.
In our cover story, infamous sex witch Sophie Saint Thomas discusses the very real tension of flaunting your sex-positivity on social media when your partner’s family disapproves. How can you strike the balance between being your authentic self while also respecting your partner and their family? How much should your partner stand up for you? How much are you willing to do to keep the peace, and at what cost?
Nikole Mitchell shares her story of being enmeshed in ‘90s purity ring culture. She was abstinent, became a pastor, married, had children, then gave it all up to become an OnlyFans star. And she’s never felt more fulfilled.
In a homage to Jonathan Swift’s A Modest Proposal, Blaize Stewart pens "A Proposal for Modesty" — a satirical piece revealing what happens when, heaven forbid, we allow people the freedom of sexual expression. We also have an article from none other than Wolf Hudson, who is known as “The King of Bi Porn.” Matt Ortile shares how his international roster of lovers has meant more to him than a single boyfriend. And Dr. Kate Balestrieri breaks down how being a slut might just save the entire world.
Then, of course, we’re back with our columns: "Zach and the City," "The In-Between," and "My Body and Other Adventures." This issue's "Artist Feature" explores The NeoVintage Glam of Eduardo Memphis, a queer Mexican artist whose erotic illustrations possess a nostalgic quality. We have porn stars, a sex publicist, and other activists for our "Business of Sex" profiles and "Painted Stories." Last but certainly not least, poet Erin Taylor, author of Bimboland, pens a poem exploring sexual yearning in the pandemic era.
Enjoy, my fellow sluts. Let’s revel in sex-positivity.
